Spa IPL Treatments
Suppose you decide to splurge and indulge yourself. You decide to go to a spa for hair removal treatments. You find a medically qualified and staffed spa, like Surface Medical Spas. They have a technology that is newer and more advanced than laser hair removal technology. It is call IPL intense pulse light devices. A laser is a very intense burst of light energy directed at the hair. As such, it is rather painful, as people who have experienced laser hair removal will tell you. The IPL is a different principle. It doesn't zap the hair with a burst of energy. It consists of a longer duration filtered white light. The hair absorbs the energy emitted, and the heat cauterizes the capillaries that supply the hair shaft, thus cutting off its nutrition. The result is that the un-nurtured hair will not grow.
Like electrolysis and laser hair removal, multiple treatments are required with the IPL. The Spa website recommends five to seven treatments spaced about six to eight weeks apart. This complements the hair growth cycle and gives the hairs a chance to grow so the technicians can see what they have to remove. Sometimes hairs are inactive. Hair growth takes place in spurts. They can't treat the hair if it isn't active. So that is one of the reasons given for the spacing of treatments.
There can be side effects and complications with IPL treatments just as with other forms of hair removal treatment. The setting of the IPL equipment is dependent on the amount of pigment in the skin. This means that the technician must correctly assess the skin type of the consumer. An incorrect assessment can results in redness, or burns or scars. The use of proper equipment can accurately determine the consumer's skin type and amount of pigment and avoid the problem of side effects and complications. At Surface Medical Spa, they use a piece of equipment called a spectrophotometer that gives them an accurately reading so they avoid the problem of complications. They take the guesswork out of the process by using technology.
For someone who is considered hair removal treatment, the IPL treatments are something to consider. The best path the consumer can follow is to gather information about the different kinds of treatment and the side-effects, complications and costs and then make a well informed decision based on the information.
