Permanent Forms Of Hair Removal

Over the years there have been many techniques or products that have claimed to be permanent forms of hair removal. The only way to achieve permanent hair removal is to destroy the hair follicle. Hair can't grow if its base is destroyed. If the base of the follicle is not destroyed then the hair will grow back. One of the most reliable methods for achieving this, if it's done properly, is electrolysis. Electrolysis treatments are painful, expensive and are performed over a period of time. A probe is inserted into the hair follicle which delivers electricity to the area of the hair follicle, hopefully destroying its base without affecting any of the surrounding area. If this is accomplished, the hair will not grow again. This process can be time consuming and tedious because each hair has to be done individually. They also sold home units based on this principle. The instrument looks like a pencil. You basically do the same thing as above, trying to destroy the base of the hair follicle.

The latest rage in hair removal is the laser. This again is a method of trying to destroy the base of the hair follicle so the hair can't grow. Instead of using a probe, this method use a thin, intense beam of light called a laser. Laser treatments take a while because they can only do small areas at a time. If one has tattoos, the treatments are quite painful. Laser treatments are quite expensive. This form of hair removal is tooted as being permanent. Whether it is or not depends on whether the hair follicle base is destroyed. There is little danger if the treatments are given properly. If they aren't, the individual can end up with skin irritations and burns.

The Flashlamp delivers an intense pulsed light beam (a form of radiation) to the area of the hair follicle. The idea again is to destroy the base of the hair follicle. The treatments are considered to be painful and expensive, but safe if performed properly. If they aren't performed properly, it is possible for the individual to have skin burns or discoloration. Again, this method is billed as a permanent form of hair removal. It may be permanent if it destroys the hair follicle base. If it doesn't, the hair will grow back.

Even if the technology is there, the success of the treatment depends on the human administering the treatment.
