Laser Hair Removal Advances
Due to advances in technology, laser hair removal which could only be done on light-skinned individuals now can be done on a wide variety of skin tones. The trick is an improvement of the variety of laser wavelengths that can be used. The earlier lasers were known as the Alexandrite and the Diode, but now we have the YAG lasers, that can do a lot more types of skin color and hair color. Another system used is called the IPL system. Part of the trick is to find different lotions and tactics to use on the skin while using the laser to keep the skin cool while scorching the blasted unwanted hair. One of the great advantages of laser hair removal over electrolysis (a very effective method) is the time of treatment. While a women's two big legs can be done with laser hair removal in as letter as 2 hours, the same job with electrolysis hair removal can take 100 hours. A women's upper lip can be done with the laser in 10 seconds, while the same upper lip can take 30-60 minutes to fry all those nasty hair follicles. Of course, to be fair, it should be noted that each person will need as many as 8 treatments to be effective in removing the hair. There is a slight pin prick sensation when the laser hair removal treatment is taking place, but if the discomfort is too much for you, the laser clinic will provide mild pain-relievers.
So the big advantage of laser hair removal is that it is relatively fast and easy. Even electrolysis, when it removes hair, does not necessarily remove it forever. Often the hair comes back in a thinner, lighter, finer form, and then this hair must be treated again, and eventually it can be permanently burned out.
The cost of laser hair removal varies quite a bit, but for a bikini line an underarm and some facial hair, you could be spending over $1000. That's a lot, but that involves at least two, and possibly more sessions. This price is supposed to be considerably less than the cost of hair removal by electrolysis. There are a lot of claims that laser hair removal works for everyone with the new lasers available, but it still seems preferable to have someone with darker hair than their skin color. People who have blond body hair, or red body hair seem to have additional problems that may mean that this awesome technology is not for them.
